Camp Discovery

Summer break can be a tricky time for families. Kids look forward to it with a twinkle in their eyes, while parents nervously wonder how in the world they are going to keep their kids busy.
For years now, Doulos has used this time as an opportunity to serve local families and invest in students through Camp Discovery.
Camp Discovery is a three-week day camp that functions a lot like a Vacation Bible School (or VBS, for you pros out there). Elementary students come from inside and outside of Doulos to participate in tons of activities, dancing, Bible stories and laughter. In the end, however, these campers aren’t the only ones who are leaving impacted.
For the Service Learning Teams (aka short-term mission groups) that join us, this is a time to see how God works internationally. They become inspired by the revolutionary impact that Doulos has on its students and on the Dominican Republic as a whole. They get the opportunity to participate in the work that God has already begun at Doulos. Staff members are encouraged by their all-in attitudes and the high energy that the teams bring to every activity.
For older Doulos students (our talented translators), Camp Discovery pushes them to step out of their comfort zones. They speak in front of crowds, patiently navigate camper conflicts, and daily engage as servant leaders. Adults that surround them are often impressed by the discipling attitudes of these teenagers.
For Doulos, this is an opportunity to celebrate growth. We get to see campers, team members, and translators learn more about God’s work. We get to celebrate new discipleship connections formed on Doulos’ campus. We get to watch team members creatively navigate unfamiliar situations, and translators develop their gifts.
We are so grateful to everyone who made Camp Discovery 2024 a success. Their hard work made the difficult days worth it and the fun days sweet. This summer’s impact will last so much longer than 3 weeks!
